Berlinda (A Decade)

lyrics

For a decade
She would pluck away each thorn
But the landscape
It would change from dusk to dawn
As we’re walking through the storm

Then from the castle gateway by the chasm
Descending through the dismal night
A night in which the bounds of heaven and earth were lost
Beheld, so high upon the dreary deeps
It seemed in heaven, a ship, the shape thereof
A dragon winged, and all from stem to stern
Bright with a shining people on the decks,
And gone as soon as seen.

Furnaces blast ancient leylines
Molten plates like clockwork unwind
As sacred Earth is torn asunder
Hymnal voice in chorus whisper

Through the pillars
Through the chapters
Through the mirrors
To the finish

For a decade
When the tempest raised a fawn
From the seabed
Like a shipwreck in its jaws
As we washed up on the shore

And then the two
Dropt to the cove, and watched the great sea fall,
Wave after wave, each mightier than the last,
Till last, a ninth one, gathering half the deep
And full of voices, slowly rose and plunged
Roaring, and all the wave was in a flame

Chaos rains cascade through cracked ice
Whilst beacons flame against the black shrines
Birds migrate through mist drenched winter
Hymnal voice in chorus whisper

Through the pillars
Through the chapters
Through the mirrors
It’s finished
